Capturing the Ethos, Pathos, and Logos of An Art Form

While training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, I was inspired by the visual language found on gis, rashguards, and various gear and paraphernalia. Most gear is geared towards men, and just screaming with masculine energy since it is a male-dominated sport.

There’s a roughness to the sport, but it is also surprisingly poetic and zen too. This martial art form taught me to be gentle with the process and to just keep going when learning something new.

A family-friendly drawing I created for the outside of a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school for St. Patrick’s Day.
